The Pirate King
Seeds planted by the dark wizard Gault took root; the people abandoned the Quest of the Covenant and the Kingdom of Acerland fell.
Arii?s power weakened and then failed. Gwaum arose in a fury. The peace of that idyllic, legendary time ended.
Worries beset the Wizard Tarque. The old beliefs have fallen away. The people have abandoned the Quest of the Covenant and Arii's power weakened.
The weakening power of Arii could only mean one thing. The monster Gwaum would strengthen. Red Man Rock showed signs each day that he gathered strength.
Tarque made one last try to try to dissuade the king from his artificial ceremony at that false fountain.
It was an attempt that failed.
Then disaster struck. Arii failed. Gwaum rose in a thunderous fury.
He began his career the way Arii had ended it so many years before. He fed on the people of Acerland relentlessly, after first slaying the king and queen.
Tarque and a few trusted followers fled the crumbling kingdom. With them, they took the son of the king and queen, Prince Bearl. It would be up to Bearl to stop the monster and slay him.
Another calamity struck. Pirates from the filthy city of Borr captured the ship and kidnapped the Prince, driving Tarque from the ship.
Tarque began his epic quest to find the Prince, finally picking up the trail in Borr. From there he tracked him to Cleery, the capital city of the Kingdom of Torne. While there, Tarque finds his old friend and lover, Miralba. After placing Bearl under the watchful eye of Miralba, Tarque next tries to locate other exiles from Acerland. He manages to locate them, and after many difficulties, establishes them in a safe haven.
The pirate threat to Island World grows. Bort, the pirate that kidnapped Bearl used the magic sword well. Using it, he defeated the Pirate King and soon wore the Black Pearl. The new Pirate King, with the magic sword at his side, assaults the kingdoms of Island World and they fall, one by one. Finally, only one remains. The Kingdom of Torne, the refuge of Bearl was all that stood between Bort and total control.
Tarque works tirelessly to try to stop the assault of the pirates. The enormity of his task begins to overwhelm him.
It was then that Miralba surprised him.
The tide began to turn.
But was it soon enough?
An eighteen-year-old son of a miller was the only impediment to Bort realizing his ambitions. The miller?s son was more than he appeared. He was the lost Prince Bearl who had a claim to the magic Sword of Vin.
The fate of Island World depended upon whom the magic sword would choose as its master.
